Third Sale to Ellora's Cave :)

Hello Fellow Writers,

I've been so busy since getting back from Romanticon 2010 (which, by the way, was *incredible*) that I haven't even had time to update my blog here with my latest news, which is that I sold Hollywood Spank to Ellora's Cave. The crazy thing is that's my fourth sale since April (Punishing the Art Thief, Ginger Snap, and Hollywood Spank to Ellora's Cave, and The Wooden Pony as part of an anthology to Berkley Heat). This whole publishing thing has happened so quickly it seems, although when I sit back and think about it, I wrote my first book ten years ago and only just recently started selling... probably because the first novel I ever wrote, when I was 19, wasn't worth the paper it was printed on!

The menage short story I was starting to write is on hold. I've started writing Taming Casey, the sequel to Chastity Belt, which I just submitted to my editor at Ellora's Cave. Soon though, that will go on hold as well so I can gear up for NaNoWriMo!

I'm very excited about NaNoWriMo. I'm torn though about what to write. Should I write my post-apocalyptic love story, Protecting Emily? Or an erotic Beauty and the Beast? Or a contemporary erotic romance on a longer scale? Or maybe even try my hand at urban fantasy and vampires? I have no clue.

Suggestions, anyone? What are *you* writing for NaNoWriMo?

  1. Speaking as a long-time Wrimo, I gotta say go with the one that, on Oct. 31 at midnight, is clearest in your head. The one you've been itching to start before. The one you've already written some scenes for, if you're geared that way. If you do something that requires a lot of new world-building, it's so tempting to get sidetracked into that part of it...which of course does nothing to increase your word count!

I'm going to be working on finishing Tangled Truth, the fourth book in my series...I don't think there are 50K words left in it, so the fifth series book is on deck if I need it!

  2. What an awesome year it's been for you. I'm so happy for you, and can't wait to get my hands on all the upcoming releases. So I can say I knew you when! ;)

I'm in the same boat for writing projects - too many things to work on. Plus I lose a huge chunk of November this month due to traveling. I have my sci-fi-ish one, that I started and put on hold when ITDA sold so I could work on those edits and the sequel. That story's been pulling at me, but I really have no idea where it's going still.

But I love your list - and I have a Beauty and the Beast idea as well! Trying to figure out if I can make it work as another story in the New Orleans universe. And I figure if Anne Rice can redo the Sleeping Beauty story, you and I could probably come up with some great "Beastly" stories! ;)

  4. Great news Shoshanna!! You're having a very successful year! I wish I could help with your decision with NaNo. I'm still trying to figure out what I'll write. I have a few ideas I'm trying to get down on paper. Hopefully one of them will stand out to me by Nov.1!!

  6. Shoshanna, Congrats again. As people have said write the one that appeals to you at the moment. I've always envied people who could do the November one. My problem is being a draft writer, I can finish the rough draft of a book in two weeks but it's way shorter than the finished product.

  7. Decisions. Decisions. It's nice to have so many different areas of interest. I'm still stuck on the pony thing. Trying to get past it!

  9. I'm a new follower *waves* and I'm super excited to see you've joined in on the fun that is NaNoWriMo! This will be my first time trying it out for size (my username is Jen_Unedited if you'd like to follow)!

I'll be writing this: When Rose wakes with wings, her world is turned upside down. The first of her kind to have wings before the age of seventeen, she is deemed a commodity and the newest ruler of Raslina. Only problem is, Fina her best friend, doesn't like Rose in all the limelight. Destined to steal her role, she tricks Rose into meeting her and ships her off into the Human World. Once out of the kingdom of Raslina it's hard to get back in. Rose must live amongst humans while in search of her kingdom. What's a fairy to do?

  10. Hi Jen! My user name is ShanaWriMo :) Sounds like you'll be writing Fantasy! Last year I had so much fun doing it, and even made new friends by going to local write-a-thons. Now I'm counting down the days to November 1st!
